Approximately 55,000 families have currently been impacted by the rains, with their possessions and temporary homes damaged.

Persistent rains over the last seven days have worsened the precarious circumstances of the hundreds of thousands of displaced civilians in the Gaza Strip, as reported by aid agencies.

"Terrible" Conditions Brings Severe Risks

A spokesman detailed the previous night's conditions as "terrible", with downpours so heavy that around 15cm (6in) of water gathered on the streets.

"The recent weather was really terrible for the residents. The storms were so strong... And the winds were so powerful," stated the official.

There is significant anxiety that young ones living in tents in soaked garments will fall victim to hypothermia and other sicknesses.

Fatalities and Significant Damage

The health ministry have stated that one baby has died from the cold and at least 11 other people have lost their lives in structural failures caused by the severe weather.

Other reports suggest a increased fatality count. Spokespeople reported that numerous homes had totally fallen and many others had collapsed partially.

  • Nearly 55,000 families affected by rains.
  • More than 40 designated refuges submerged.
  • Countless residents required to move once more.

Aid Operations Seen as Not Enough

Agencies have stepped up distribution of tarpaulins, bedding and garments following the halt in hostilities began, but they stress there is still not enough aid getting in.

"Officials are striving constantly to bring in that aid and to distribute it, but the magnitude of the requirements is so enormous that we are faced with many thousands of families and children who are truly enduring hardship nightly," cautioned one official.

Future Concerns and Truce Terms

The next stage of the ceasefire includes arrangements for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with political arrangements, the removal of military forces, and other provisions.

Relief organizations have stressed the necessity for "expanded and ongoing humanitarian assistance to meet pressing and future requirements."

The conflict was sparked by an attack in the autumn of 2023. Later actions have caused a substantial number of lives lost in the region, as per health ministry data.
