The star has revealed that she believes it's no longer fitting to comment publicly countering the Trump presidency, concerned it could intensify unhelpful debate and increase separation across the country.

‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Explains Lawrence

Speaking with media, Lawrence commented, “When Trump was first in office, I felt like I was running around in a panicked state. But it’s become clear, through repeated campaigns, public figures fail to influence in any way on who people vote for.”

She continued, “What’s the point? I’m just voicing my thoughts on a matter that’s going to worsen tensions dividing the country apart.”

Changing Allegiances

Lawrence has previously been open about backing Republican and Democratic contenders throughout her life. Raised by a right-leaning family in her home state, she cast her ballot for John McCain in the 2008 election then moving to the Democrats and revealing she understood during President Obama’s term that voting Republican was opposing her own rights as a woman.

Earlier Remarks

In 2015, she remarked that Trump winning the presidency could represent “a catastrophic event” and endorsed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. During the most recent election, she gave her endorsement to Kamala Harris, “as I believe she’s an excellent choice and I know that she will do whatever she can to defend reproductive rights.”

Jennifer Lawrence was joined by most of Hollywood in her rejection of the former president as a candidate for re-election, but the minimal impact celebrities have over the electoral decisions was underscored by Trump’s victory.

“The second term feels different,” said she about his administration. “As he said what he was going to do. We knew what he did for the previous administration. He was explicit. And that’s what we chose.”

The actor is highlighting Die, My Love, Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she portrays a young mom who struggles with her mental health in the countryside. Speaking at a press conference for the movie in the film festival, Lawrence addressed the situation in the Middle East: “I’m terrified. It’s devastating. What’s happening is equivalent to a genocide and it’s awful.”

The actress elaborated by saying that she was disappointed by “the disrespect in the discussions of American politics currently and how that is going to be normalised to the children now. It’s going to be standard to them that elected officials deceive.”

The actor sought to redirect outrage about the conflict to policymakers rather than entertainers. “Keep attention on those accountable,” she remarked, in what many took to be a reference to the then-recent pledge signed by numerous Hollywood professionals to boycott specific industry bodies.

Relatable Experiences

The actor, who won an Oscar early in her career for her role in the acclaimed film, is receiving praise for her portrayal in Die, My Love. Although Ramsay has rejected the narrative being understood as one of maternal mental health issues and psychological distress, the actress revealed that she connected with elements of her film narrative after the delivery of her new baby, shortly after shooting ended.

“It was fear about my child,” she commented, “envisioning every potential danger, and then doubting everything that I was doing. I was seeing a therapist, but I started taking a treatment called the prescription and I continued it for a short period and it really helped.”

Jennifer Lawrence also discussed about the empowering aspect of completing nude scenes in the film while she was expecting and couldn’t work out.

“It’s refreshing,” she said, of being forced to abandon insecurities. “Honestly, I sometimes think where I’m like, What separates me between myself and a sex worker? But it isn’t a major concern.”
