The Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Showdown Against defending champion Dodgers
Springer contributed to the Houston Astros securing the World Series in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their first championship series following the 1993 season by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the final seventh game of the American League Championship Series.
Trailing by two runs, the star outfielder hit a three-run blast in the seventh frame, propelling the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series win in the seven-game series. They will now face the Dodgers, who are the reigning title, in the forthcoming championship.
"It's incredible for this squad, Toronto, the nation," Springer stated, an integral part of the Astros team that won the 2017 title. "This is such an amazing experience."
George Springer has now hit 23 October home runs, placing him third in history after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).
"I can't think of anyone else on planet Earth that I want up in that moment except for him with his October magic," noted manager John Schneider.
Seattle, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the sole team never to appear in a championship series.
Manager Dan Wilson stated "certainly that it's painful" following his team's loss at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their efforts in the campaign.
"This is a unique group. Sadly that we ended up on the wrong side of the series," he remarked.
Toronto's team won the championship on both previous visits in the early 90s, and will welcome the Dodgers in game one on the upcoming Friday.
