UN:Me: A Psychological Horror That Blends Silent Hill with Social Deduction Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several intriguing future games, but one especially has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure appears to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive experience where a young woman containing multiple personalities within her must escape from a maze of the psyche," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of high school age. Inside her reside four distinct souls, each with unique anxieties and drives. These entities can seize control at will, releasing their innermost terrors upon her without warning.

Judging by revealed footage, much of the action unfolds within a creepy medical facility, while other scenes depict the main character navigating a abandoned church.

An Environment of Individual Dread

"What are you fearful of? What makes you uneasy?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Things that seem trivial to other people can trigger something primal inside us. This game explores that concept — fears that are unique to each person."

The central mechanic involves controlling the persona that surfaces at any given moment. However, these souls will switch involuntarily during gameplay. During exploration, every persona's fears become exaggerated and assault the protagonist in succession. When the soul changes, so does the particular terror the player experiences.

Unsettling Visuals and a Deadly Decision

Initially, UN:Me shares striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is populated by orderlies who all share the identical visage, with disturbingly broad smiles. Patients in the waiting room have enormous flowers growing from their heads should be. Floral motifs are a recurring theme, contrasting organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular mechanic. Players must determine which of the four souls haunting the heroine is the "real" one. "All four souls asserts that the physical form belongs to them," notes a developer. "During the game, you need to figure out who is real."

Once players believes a persona is an impostor, they must eliminate it. However, because each soul can deceive or obfuscate the truth, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the true [soul] by your own actions," a voice states. "The final entity standing could be a fraud. Either way, your choices are irreversible."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced release date, but it is can be wishlist on platforms.
